The traditional Japanese inn had a lovely charm, and we’d definitely like to return. We came with our children, ages five and three, and even though we booked one room, they let us use two because they thought one would be too small. They only charged us heating for one room. The rooms were clean, with air conditioning and a kotatsu, and the grandmother was very kind and kept the kids entertained. It seems they don’t accept foreign guests. The location was great, away from the tourist crowds, so it was easy to come and go, and there was a Lawson within walking distance. The water they gave us as a souvenir was delicious.
The location and the staff’s personalities were as good as other people have said, but the stay was so bad that I didn’t stay there. I’d give it a negative rating, not even one star. The yukata and face towels listed on the booking site weren’t there, and there wasn’t even a toothbrush. The room curtains were only sheer lace and completely see-through, so I imagine it gets quite bright in the morning. The bath only had cold water coming out, and the bath itself was lukewarm, nowhere near warm enough.
It was a wonderful experience I won’t forget. I went for a school training camp and really enjoyed making delicious hoto. If I get the chance, I’d love to go again someday.
The rooms were clean, the atmosphere was nice, and the staff had good personalities, but some regular guests behaved badly and spoiled things. Oshino Hakkai is close by, and although it gets busy with foreign tourists in the daytime, the quiet evening or early morning is a good time to explore. There’s a Lawson nearby too. The bathtub and shower area are close together. When I shared the bath with some inconsiderate regulars, showering rinsed body soap and shampoo into the tub. It was disgusting, and I didn’t want to soak. At a meal in the dining room, some drunk guests made a huge disturbance and the landlady had to come apologize. When booking, maybe check whether there’s a frequent elderly tennis club there (lol).
