The room was spacious, and the futon was fluffy, which I appreciated. The food was tasty too, though given what the whole stay cost, I thought they could have served better meals. The accommodation is on the expensive side for Yoro Onsen, so I arrived with high expectations and left feeling it hadn't been worth the price. With the number of guest rooms and the size of the baths, a private or family bath seems necessary if you want to enjoy the hot springs at your own pace. I went with someone who was a classmate of the young owner and was promoting the inn. We bathed four times, morning and evening, and shared the bath on three of those visits.

I used to love coming here for the smooth, black hot spring water. The bath is small, but I would soak in it several times during a stay. The room is small and Japanese-style, yet the clear stream and view keep it from feeling cramped, and noise from neighboring rooms wasn't a problem. In early summer, the Japanese bush frog is lovely to hear. I've visited seven times just for that sound. Meals are set at three price levels. Even the middle option was satisfying, with things like potato and pork hotpot, grilled sweetfish, and grilled eel. Prices have changed quite a bit in recent years. I understand the current situation may make that unavoidable, but the increase felt too steep to me, so I stopped going. The landlady said my GT-R was nice, though, so I'll probably visit again soon.

Dinner was a treat, especially the eel I was looking forward to. It was a small serving, but I was satisfied, and the seasoning made me want more rice. We ate at a table in the tatami room, which was relaxing. It's a small inn and the staff were kind. The hot spring is compact, so it feels cramped with about three people, but the black water left my skin feeling smooth. If you ask beforehand, they may let you use it as a family bath, which was an especially thoughtful touch. Bring your own lotion and emulsion; combs and hair caps are provided.

I stayed here 40 years ago, at what felt like a secluded inn just beyond the tunnel. I'm glad to see it's still going. Yoro Valley seems to be in complete decline now, but I hope it keeps doing its best.

The river in Yoro Valley is visible from the room, which was lovely, and the food was excellent. Dinner was a generous spread of sashimi, simmered dishes, grilled items, tempura, and eel kabayaki at the end. Breakfast was filling too. The building is old, but it's kept clean, so that didn't bother me. Some parts have been renovated, and the plumbing doesn't feel that old. The shared toilet may be a bit dated and Japanese-style, but the toilet in the room is Western-style with a washlet, so it wasn't an issue.
