The onsen was lovely, and having the lifts right outside was convenient. The staff were friendly, though not especially helpful. Every morning at 4am, the snow remover parked outside our room woke us up, and it kept running until 6am. Everything here, from the decor and beds to the amenities, felt like it was from around 1992, a trip back to the late 80s or early 90s. The breakfast buffet was very good, but only ran from 7 to 9:15. Dinner was a single option, a buffet costing a steep ¥5000 per person, more than a full-day lift ticket. Skip it and the other food options are a 15-minute walk from the resort, with no streetlights, so bring a flashlight. The gift shop does have ramen noodles if you're stuck. For the price, it wasn't good value. I wouldn't recommend the hotel at what they charge.

After a day on the slopes, the outdoor onsen was a quiet, peaceful way to relax. Ski rental is available nearby, too, which made things simple. The location is true ski-in, ski-out at Norikura Ski Resort, and the slopes weren't crowded, so we didn't have long lift waits. That made skiing with our child much more enjoyable. We had a wonderful family stay at Hakuba Alps Hotel. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with three beds, and there are Japanese-style rooms with futons on the floor if you want a traditional option. The hotel has a calm, serene feel, great for a relaxing family ski holiday. Highly recommended for families or anyone after a quieter resort experience. I😊 love here.

The main reason I'd come back is the easy access to the slopes. You can ski right on and off, and there's a large ski locker in the basement. A rental shop is in the same area, charging market rates, around ¥5,000 a day for boots, skis, and poles. Parking is out front, with overflow spaces a two-minute walk down the hill. The place is showing its age, as you'd expect from a hotel that opened in 1973. The wallpaper and furniture are scuffed, though the rooms are very spacious by 2020s standards, the bathrooms are reasonably modern, and the heating works very well. Breakfast and dinner are available if booked in advance. As of Jan 2026, they cost ¥2,200 and ¥5,000 per person, respectively. The onsen has the usual indoor and outdoor baths. Getting in touch is difficult. The listed phone number sends you to a robocall system instead of reception, though they did eventually message me online. Set your expectations for a 70s-80s ski lodge experience. I'd stay again for the slope access.

I didn't have many complaints in the end, since the experience was better than I'd expected from the Google ratings. The room had a TV without an internet connection and desks without chairs, and they don't clean rooms every day, though you can swap used towels. Parking is available for hotel guests, but there's no cover between the parking area and the main lobby. Even though there were just two of us, we got a room big enough for four, with two double-decker beds. It also seemed recently refurbished. The staff were friendly, the Japanese breakfast had a nice spread, and the hotel connects conveniently to the ski area. You can rent ski gear there, and lockers are available to store it.

I was happy I picked this hotel for my Hakuba trip this year. People say it's old and rundown, but that wasn't true for me. It's a standard Japanese-style hotel, and I really enjoyed that local style. The room was clean, quiet, comfortable, and spacious. The onsen was very good, and there's a huge parking lot. The hotel had everything I needed, so I didn't have to leave during my stay. It's got ski-in, ski-out access, rentals, lockers, a ski school, and a good breakfast, not the best, but good enough. There were so many facilities I couldn't try them all. With a car, shops, restaurants, and another ski resort are nearby. I'd definitely come back for a longer stay next winter.
