Hiyodori Sansou

Breakfast and dinner were both delicious, with generous servings and excellent dessert. The facility is quite old and has a very Showa-era feel, but it's kept spotlessly clean. You can buy amenities there, so arriving without your own is no problem.

We were heading to a nearby restaurant and parked in a nearby space, only to find out it belonged to this inn. An older man who seemed to be the owner came out and immediately started shouting at us. It's a popular tourist area, and there were no signs or ropes saying we couldn't park there, so we hadn't realized. We apologized and said we'd move the car right away, but he kept yelling. They then blocked the front of the car with what looked like a snowplow, so we couldn't get out, and said we had to pay a 10,000 yen nuisance fee less than ten minutes after parking or they'd call the police. Even after the police arrived and we still couldn't get the car out, they said the fee would go up. Stay away from this inn.

It felt more like a student dorm, with no towels and a shared toilet and bathroom. The elderly owner’s arrogant attitude put me off. Guests should at least be treated as guests.

The room was clean, though I was a little unsure about the heavy silk comforter. I'd definitely stay again. I had the B plan, and the homemade food was delicious. The local sake, Hakuba Nishiki, was good too, and those home-cooked flavors really revived me after a tiring day. There are seven faucets in the bathroom, which feels comfortable with up to four people. They provide two bottles of body soap and shampoo/conditioner. I always bring my own shampoo and towels to mountain lodges and cabins, so that was fine for me. The toilet and sink have been renovated, with sensor-activated toilets that are very convenient.
