Hakuba Momiji

We went for three nights in early March, just as ski season was winding down. Conditions weren’t great, but staying at Momiji made the trip worthwhile. The rooms are cozy and well appointed, and the lobby lounge is a lovely place to spend a snowy afternoon. I really liked the music, especially the jazz. Whoever was DJing seemed to know my taste! The food was amazing, so I’d recommend adding the nightly meals. After skiing, the homemade local dishes and sake pairings were just right. Service stayed friendly and helpful, even with everyone getting ready for the end-of-season shutdown. There are two private onsens on B1. In the off season, we never waited more than 10 minutes for one to open, though I can imagine the wait getting annoying during peak season. We had a great stay. I only wish the snow had been better, which gives us a reason to come back next time we’re in Japan.

Three of us stayed at the lodge for a week in February 2026 on a ski trip. The staff were wonderful, and the boutique lodge itself is beautiful. Rooms are a good size, with comfortable beds and nice accessories. The breakfast buffet was well above average, with thoughtful preparation and some unique choices. The onsens were clean and comfortable, each suited to two people. We ended up canceling several restaurant bookings because dinner at the lodge was so good. You can ski in and out to Cortina and Norikura, with a range of green, red, and black runs across three ski hills. Highly recommend it for its location and amenities.

We stayed 12 nights in a king bed ensuite. The room was spacious, and the bathroom was small but adequate. The lodge is beautifully done in wood, with a nice fireplace, dining room, and bar. After skiing, the onsens were great. Having a lift from the bus stop in the evenings was a real plus. Dinner and breakfast were excellent, and the owners and staff were great too. Highly recommended.

The two private onsens were a real highlight, and Julian and his team took great care of us. We also enjoyed the lovely free tea and a very good breakfast. Momiji sits near the northern Norikura slope and not far from the main ski area. It isn't quite ski-in, ski-out, but it's close. There are a couple of places to eat and drink nearby; La Mantequilla was good in the evening, and Cafe Heidi suited us during the ski day. It's on the quieter end of the Hakuba Valley, which we really liked.
