Hotel Sunny Valley

The room was very dirty, with visible, unpleasant stains on the pillow. It gave the impression that it hadn’t been cleaned properly. Getting back from the ski resort was a serious safety concern. We called to request a pickup and agreed to pay JPY 5,000. After waiting 30 minutes in heavy snow, nobody showed up. When we called again, the hotel said they couldn’t pick us up at all, so we had to walk nearly 50 minutes back through strong winds and snow. Before arriving, we emailed to ask about check-in time and basic details. Instead of answering, the reply criticized us for asking too many questions, which felt highly unprofessional. Staff spoke limited English and came across as arrogant and dismissive, making communication difficult. This place fell short on basic service, communication, and concern for guest safety. I strongly advise against staying here.

The food is very Japanese, and there isn’t much of it. The rooms have futons, and there’s a good ski and snowboard locker room. If all you need is somewhere to ski and sleep, it’s a great place.

The reception man was so kind, and the service deserves an extra star on its own. The views are beautiful, the atmosphere is great, and being just a few steps from the slopes made it feel like a real taste of Japanese culture. We’d stay here again if we ski in Japan. Even the little breakfast announcement in the morning was a highlight, so cute!

The service was excellent. They drove me to the gondola every day and picked me up after skiing. My room stayed warm, and the food was authentic. You do need to request the Japanese-style breakfast, which costs an extra JPY 1,000. There’s also a hot spring in the basement, great for relaxing after a day on the slopes!
