Okanoue Hotel Miyagawa

For our anniversary ski trip, the team made us feel special with thoughtful surprises and took care of the details. The staff were super friendly and helpful, especially the team members from Taiwan and Hong Kong. The location right next to the gondola was so convenient, and the onsen felt perfect after skiing. Our room was cozy, though we wished it were a little warmer during the freezing nights. A wonderful stay thanks to the team!

The location beside the mountain is the only good thing about this place. It’s a shame the facilities aren’t updated or kept clean. The building feels old and neglected, and there was a lot of mold in the onsen. They charge a mandatory extra fee to “use the spring water” and onsen, but the outdoor onsen was closed. The indoor onsen and rinsing area didn’t look cleaned: hair and other particles were floating in the water and on the tiles. They also don’t provide shampoo, conditioner, or soap in the hotel rooms. The bathroom was incredibly small and uncomfortable, and there were no standard Japanese toilets with bidets. There was someone else’s hair in the beds, and the duvet covers had blood stains, partly covered by a fitted sheet. When we asked for a bedsheet and towel, the staff seemed reluctant and questioned why we wanted them. Breakfast was only served from 7 to 8:30, and on several days the buffet didn’t open until 7:30. We had a 7:45 tour, so we couldn’t eat before skiing. One morning they let us pay for the buffet on the spot, but the next day said we couldn’t have breakfast because we hadn’t booked it the night before. That was the second time we had to rely on the convenience store across the street for breakfast. I’d highly recommend staying somewhere else.

The hotel has decor all over that makes it feel a bit like a museum. Staff were kind and helpful, even though I don't speak Japanese. The rooms were clean and cozy, and after skiing the onsen was so nice. Tsugaike resort is perfectly close, and you can ski right to the back entrance.

The baths were very nice, and the price was reasonable. The location and included meals were great, too.
