Dormy Inn Premium Otaru Natural Hot Spring

The hotel is quite dated, and the decor and furniture look like they've been used for decades. Still, the location is great, just outside the train station, so I could drop off my luggage right away and head out sightseeing. Breakfast eggs were so good! And after a tiring day, the natural hot springs were amazing.

The staff were genuinely kind and went out of their way to help, but the hotel itself felt dark and dated. Our room faced the station, so the window brought in a little extra light. We paid over $200 for one Saturday night in October, and newer places were available for less. Granbell looked fresh, so we stopped there for a drink. The station is right across the street, which is handy if you're taking the train. We spent much of our two days in Otaru around the canal and Sakaimachi Street, though, and those were about a 15-20 minute and 30-minute walk away. I'd stay closer to the canal next time. We didn't try the public bath because the age of the hotel put us off, and we missed breakfast because of a 10 a.m. booking at a sea urchin restaurant. I wish they'd update the lobby furniture and put brighter bulbs in the rooms. For what we paid, it wasn't worth it. Sorry 🙏🏼

The twin room had enough space for us to open two suitcases at once, which seems like it should be standard but apparently isn't easy to find in Japan. The night soba was really comforting, too. One guy was rude when he sent us away while we were getting water on the second floor.

Breakfast was a real highlight, tasty and with lots to choose from, and everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable, though it looked a little dated. I would've liked a safe in the room and a TV that could cast from a phone, but I still had an enjoyable stay.
