The room had a fantastic view day and night, and the in-room onset bath, amenities, and surroundings were all top-notch and well maintained. Breakfast and dinner were freshly prepared and delicious, served in courses. The staff showed real care, respect, and courtesy. We don't speak Japanese, but they were patient and happy for us to communicate with Google/iOS Translate. Their generosity as hosts is rare these days. This was the best hotel experience of our first trip to Hokkaido, Japan. We'll definitely stay again, and I wish the staff good health and prosperity.

The staff really touched us. The woman who welcomed us was a little shy but so warm and polite. She showed us our room, worked at reception, and served dinner too. Everyone was kind, attentive, and helpful, especially when they remembered we had an early departure and served breakfast promptly. Although the restaurant initially couldn't open earlier at our request, it opened ahead of schedule, and we left just in time. Dinner was breathtaking, with live abalone prepared at our table, a first for us, and a lovely sake pairing. The food was world-class. Breakfast was light and elegant. Ginrinsou's classic interior is stunning, full of little artistic details and a photographer's dream. There's a tower you can climb for a beautiful view, if you're not afraid of heights. The hot springs alternate between men and women each day, something we hadn't encountered before in Japan. Best of all, each of us had the bath entirely to ourselves, with a magnificent sea view. The facilities are a bit aged, as you'd expect, but clean and full of character. We paid around €620 for two adults, including dinner, breakfast, and the sake pairing. That felt fair for the quality, service, and unusual experience. It's not a budget stay, but it was a refined, memorable ryokan. We were there only one night in deep winter, February 11-12, and left early the next morning, so it was sadly too short. We hope to come back and stay longer. One thing gave us pause: there's an intricately carved ivory ship displayed on the floor. We understand it's historic and that the hotel follows Japanese law, but ivory can feel outdated to today's guests. A small sign with some context, or different artwork, might fit global values better in 2025.

The outdoor spa was the best, and the staff were so friendly. There was a lot of food, too. The hotel has great views over the bay and city, plus a shuttle from the JR train station. It's easy to get to the Nikka whiskey tour from here. Highly recommended, and I'll return!

A great ryokan for experiencing Japanese architecture, culture, food, and service. One of the best places for that.

This isn't a review, but does anyone know how to reach them from outside Japan, by email or contact form? I can't find contact information. I'm trying to book, but it keeps saying no rooms are available, even after trying several dates.
