The landlady is very friendly and speaks good English. The Japanese-style room was clean and comfortable, and I slept really well. I was traveling alone, but there were spare futons in the wardrobe and the room can sleep three. The bathroom and showers were modern and clean. There's also a shared living room and kitchen with a TV and basic supplies, though I didn't use them. The place is a bit out of the way for Otaru Canal and the tourist areas, but it's fine if you enjoy walking. You can walk to Minami-Otaru and take the train to Otaru for the more central part of the city.

Everything was fantastic, apart from the steep stairs up to the hostel. With big, heavy luggage, you have to drag it up to level 3.

I was really disappointed with this stay and won't use this hotel again. I'd heard good things and had been looking forward to it, but my expectations weren't met at all. At check-in, the staff were completely unfriendly. When I asked questions, they didn't even try to hide their irritation, which made the interaction unpleasant. The room looked clean at first, but there was trash from the previous guest under the bed and mold in the bathroom. It clearly hadn't been cleaned properly. I feel like my precious holiday was ruined. For the price, I expected service to match, so this was very disappointing. I've given up hope that things will improve.

We had a bunk bed room, but the air freshener smelled just like the toilet, so it felt like we were in a bathroom the whole time. There weren't enough sheets for everyone, leaving us to sleep on futons without covers. The sheets weren't put on the beds either, so we had to do that ourselves. The room was a shoes-off area, and the floor was dirty. We had to move around in slippers and wear them into the bathroom too. Although the place was designed for visitors from abroad, the only other guests were foreigners. The bathroom facilities were clean, but the rest of the service wasn't worth the price.
