Hotel Daiheigen

The buffets had traditional Japanese dishes, and the huge indoor and outdoor onsen were great. We had a very pleasant stay, especially with the balloon ride, which was amazing. Our room was also big and very clean.

I especially enjoyed the dinner steak, tempura, and curry rice, which were only served in the evening. There was plenty to choose from at the buffet, including seafood, meat, and vegetables, and I liked the Japanese way of eating. The seafood bowls seemed especially popular. Breakfast focused on Japanese favorites, and I was happy to have tamago kake gohan (TKG). The restaurant was full, but I didn’t see any foreign travelers. That made it feel like a chance to experience the kind of trip many Japanese people enjoy. If you’re looking for something that feels distinctly Japanese, rather than somewhere crowded with foreign tourists where you might wonder if you’re really in Japan, I’d recommend this hotel and region. The traditional rooms, food, and hot springs made for a comfortable, relaxing stay. At about 100 euros per person with breakfast and dinner included, the price felt very worthwhile. The hot spring water is plant-derived and quite unusual, and it left my skin feeling smooth and silky.

Dinner and breakfast both had lots of choices, and the food was delicious. The staff were polite and professional. The building and rooms are showing their age, though they were clean. The public bath is enormous, with different sections and a pool-like waterjet bath where you can relax and try the various massage settings.
