Inase Otsu Machiya Bed & Breakfast

The view from the room and the peaceful garden inside the hotel were breathtaking. Inase has the warm, cosy feeling of a traditional Japanese home. The owners are genuinely kind and put a lot of care into cleanliness and quality. I had a wonderful time here with my students. A must-visit spot!

Inase Otsu is the best place I’ve stayed in Japan. The traditional Machiya is gorgeous and so well preserved, and all the staff were exceptional. They were glad to make accommodations, especially for people who don’t speak Japanese. We were lucky to experience a beautiful traditional tea ceremony held by the staff. If you’re around Kyoto/Otsu, I can’t recommend it enough. I’d come back to Japan just to stay here again. Thanks again, Saori and the staff, for everything!

The inner garden, flowers, beautiful ceramics, and cedarwood smell made this machiya a once-in-a-lifetime stay for us. The owner is a wonderfully kind lady, and we were glad to meet her. Everything was great, and the value for money was insanely good. About the shared bathroom: each room has its own toilet and a small wash basin. You just need to go downstairs for the shower and bath. If we’d known how lovely this hotel was, we would have booked a longer stay instead of dealing with all the hustle and bustle of Kyoto. Highly recommend!

Exploring Otsu was great, and we had a wonderful time at Inase. The building is beautiful and full of history, from the common room through to the showers. Staff were incredibly kind and helpful, and the breakfast was lovely with very attentive service. If you're in the area, I'd really recommend spending at least one night here.
