Ogotoso

Really good!

I came to Ogoto Onsen while on business in Osaka, since staying there the whole time seemed like it might get boring. It was my first visit to Lake Biwa, and the view through the large windows was beautiful. I felt comfortable staying on my own. Dinner was a treat: the Omi beef sukiyaki was delicious, and I could relax alone in a separate room. I usually go to Umino Sato, so I was also happy to try the lake’s sweetfish, which was delicious. Freshwater fish are great too. Having a private bath to myself for a set 40-minute slot felt special and undisturbed. I’d definitely recommend it to solo travelers.

The waitresses were warm, and we had a pleasant family stay. We chose the sukiyaki course, which was delicious and filling, with plenty of Omi beef for everyone. Since meals are included in the accommodation price, I thought the value was excellent. There’s also a duck hotpot course this time of year that I’d like to come back and try. We were looking for somewhere to stay on our Kyoto and Shiga trip where food came first, and this place fit that priority. The inn’s facilities are old and not especially comfortable, but for food-focused travelers I’d recommend it. The pickup and drop-off from the nearest station was helpful too.

The food was all carefully prepared and delicious, and I left completely full. The inn offered a private hot spring bath as well as an open-air bath, with thick, lovely water. Everyone there was so kind. For this quality, the price felt reasonable, and it was a wonderful inn.
