It takes about 8-10 minutes to walk slowly from JR Otsu station. A streetcar goes past the hotel, and since my room faced the road, I could hear it every day. The location was still pretty good, with easy access to most attractions.

There’s a nice “hondori” shopping arcade across from the hotel, though many shops have closed since new malls opened. The “hikiyama” festival cart museum was fantastic, with an authentic hikiyama and the mechanical doll used in the annual October festival. JR station is a 15 to 20 minute walk, or a taxi costs 500 to 600 yen. It’s about 10 minutes by train to Kyoto and 30 minutes to Omni Hachiman. The Keihan Line station is a 10 minute walk, and Ishiyamadera is nearby.

The full Japanese breakfast was really tasty and free. You have to pin your attendance on the board near the lift. The hotel is on a slope, and the self check-in machine made the process quick and easy. The room was just right for one person, with a bathtub in the toilet and a heated toilet bowl. You can pick up amenities in the lobby, and I liked their matcha. Coffee is only available from 6:30 to 10am. One thing to be aware of, I could hear my next-door neighbor loud and clear.

The room was very clean, and breakfast tasted good. The hotel is near the Biwako Firework event area and not too far from Otsu station.

It’s about a 10 minute walk from Otsu Station and eight minutes from the Lake. The hotel is quiet, comfortable, spacious, and clean, and the price is good. Breakfast is a nice extra, though it’s pretty basic.
