I really enjoyed the meals, every dish was excellent. The baths and sauna had good facilities too, and I could relax properly. I was traveling alone, and all the staff were kind and friendly. Even though I arrived late for check-in, they took good care of me.

Dinner came one dish at a time, and the flavors were gentle and tasty. Breakfast was fairly standard. The side dishes were already set out on the table rather than offered buffet-style, while guests served their own rice and miso soup. That setup seems convenient for older guests who find carrying a tray difficult. I got the sense that quite a few guests return. The atmosphere may disappoint if your room doesn’t face Lake Biwa. From the Mount Hiei side, the view includes the highway and isn’t especially scenic, though that may be fine if you just need a place to stay for work.

The atmosphere indoors is calm, without much decoration, but it feels clean and has the facilities you need. The rooms are practical, and I liked that they were quiet. The staff’s careful, proper service also reflects the reassuring feel of a long-established public organization. The location is convenient for walks nearby and for business trips. People looking for luxury or a special, out-of-the-ordinary experience may find it a bit plain, but I think it suits anyone who wants a calm stay.
