Rittou makes a handy base if you can’t find a room in the old capital, since there’s a direct train to Kyoto. The hotel itself is good, with friendly service and reasonable prices, right in the middle of this countryside town.

It’s close to the station, so getting around Ritto is convenient. The place is clean, and the rooms are quite spacious.

The hotel was great, and I’ve stayed here a few times for work across the street. One night I was walking to a nearby convenience store for ice cream when a figure on a bicycle came toward me from the station. He was almost twice my size and looked like Yoda. He kept asking, “Are you the phone call guy?” I still wonder who he thought I was. If anyone knows, please tell me.

For around 7,000 yen, I found a cheap place to stay in the area, and parking was free. Amenities are picked up from the front desk. The room had a separate bathroom, toilet, and sink, which I hadn’t seen in a business hotel before, and the hallway made it feel a bit more spacious. The shower pressure was strong and the water drained well. Wi-Fi was good enough for videos, and having deodorizing spray and an air purifier was a nice extra. I was in a smoking room and appreciated the large ashtray. There’s a Friend Mart nearby for shopping.
