Saga City Hotel

The location worked well, about a 7-minute walk from the JR station. I liked the very Japanese-style public bath and shared rest area, and breakfast is available in the first-floor restaurant. But the room was small, the bathroom tiny, and the air conditioner was either too cold or too weak. There were also lots of bedbugs on the bed, which felt quite awkward. The restaurant was smoky, with the smell of cooking oil fumes.

The public bath is a nice bonus, and the staff were helpful and friendly. It's easy to walk to Saga station and nearby restaurants. The room was clean and not especially spacious, though still bigger than most Japanese business hotels.

Simple is best here, and the service is very good for what you pay. It's close to the station, good value, and has what you'd want in a hotel, including a large indoor spa and sauna. You can get 50% off and vouchers to use at stores and restaurants. Parking isn't free, though, the hotel lot costs 500yen for one night.

The building looks a little old, both the capsule area and regular hotel, but there don't seem to be many capsule hotels in this city. The second-floor bath is open to all guests, which is a plus. On the men's side it stays open from check-in until 10am the next morning. Saga station is walkable, with Saga beef yakiniku, a Genghis Khan lamb BBQ place, and an izakaya-style restaurant serving Yabuko live squid nearby. There's a konbini close by too.
