Mikuni Kanko Hotel

We stayed here the night before going to Tojinbo. From Mikuni Station, it took us about 15 minutes on foot, up a steep mountain path with some stairs. If you’re carrying a lot of luggage, you may want another way to get there. We arrived around 10 pm. The inn kindly helped us plan the next day, adjusting both breakfast and the car ride to Tojinbo to suit us. Breakfast the next morning was delicious. One caution: from your room on the second floor, you might be able to see someone standing too close to the outer wall of the semi-open-air bath. That was my only concern. I’d still definitely recommend the inn for a trip to Fukui.

Dinner was even more generous than I expected, and the room was clean and tidy. It was my first time here and my first taste of Echizen crab. It was so fresh and delicious that I felt everyone should try it at least once in their life! Communication with the owner wasn’t completely smooth, but I could feel how much he cared. Everything was wonderful. And thank you for the birthday wishes!

The inn’s best rooms were already booked more than three months ahead, so I took the only one still available. I promised myself I’d try for a better room next time. The inn had a great atmosphere, and the owner was friendly, easy to talk to, and conscientious. Breakfast was delicious, especially the grilled mackerel, the best I’ve ever had. We went to Yohei Sushi for dinner, and that was excellent too, a really nice surprise. I’m grateful to Kaze no Mori for making the trip such a good experience. Fukui Prefecture was wonderful. There were only a few guest rooms, so it felt like we had the whole inn to ourselves. The rooms were clean, and the staff who came in around 10 am were always smiling and welcoming. The owner has a fantastic personality, and being able to use the open-air bath privately around the clock felt like a dream. Tojinbo and the beach are nearby, which made it fun for both the children and adults. The value for money was amazing. This is easily the best hot spring inn I’ve experienced, and I’ll definitely come back, maybe in fall or winter. Fukui Prefecture is fun, with great food and a dinosaur museum.
