At that price, I was surprised by how roomy the clean, quiet room was. The decor is older, but everything was well cared for. I landed in Sakaide unexpectedly after my flight from Matsuyama was cancelled while I was trying to reach Kyoto. When I called from the station around 11pm, the reception staff were patient and extremely helpful despite my limited Japanese. They were just as kind when I arrived, and arranged a taxi back to the station for 4.30am. I wish I’d had time to try the amenities, but this was a very pleasant, affordable emergency stay. If I return to Sakaide, I’d happily stay here again.

The outside could use a clean and perhaps an update, but inside the hotel is spotless and carefully maintained. It feels like it must have been quite a place in its heyday, and it’s still a nice place to stay.

We enjoyed the free coffee and sweets at the cafe during the day, and breakfast lived up to its good reputation while being very reasonably priced. Our room felt new and comfortable after its recent refurbishment. The staff were so warm and kind. There isn’t much public transport in this area, though.

The reception staff were excellent, and the hotel was very clean and well presented. There’s a basic onsen on site, plus a voucher for the larger onsen across the road.

The retro feel is nice, and the rooms are spacious and clean. Service was polite and breakfast was very good. It’s not a five-star hotel, of course, but for what it costs the value is excellent. I’d gladly come back.
