Ryokan Taishoro

Dinner was a real highlight, especially the pink “somen” noodles and other local flavors. You can tell the couple running this family-owned ryokan, now in its fourth generation, put a lot of care into the food. The beautifully renovated bath, with its brick mural of a local shrine, was a lovely way to end the evening. The inner garden added to the quiet atmosphere, and Mr. Uda’s English made everything easy from the warm welcome onward. Taishoro is a quick 6-minute walk from the station and a good base for visiting historical places like Miwa Shrine. The futon was surprisingly comfortable, though light came in early without blackout curtains. I also would’ve appreciated water bottles in the room. Breakfast upstairs on the second floor, overlooking the garden, was simple but exquisite and made for a peaceful start to the day. The traditional tatami room had a garden view, with a shared bath and toilet. It was immaculately kept, and staff were attentive, warm, and English-speaking. The bath area is beautifully renovated. It’s cash only and exceptionally quiet at night. A great fit for solo travelers, food lovers, or anyone after a serene, authentic stay away from crowds. I’d definitely return for a few days of workation or to combine it with hiking nearby.

Uda-san was an outstanding host, spoke excellent English, and shared lots of useful information about the area’s history, places to visit, and hiking. He also worked around our evening schedule. My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Taishoro Ryokan. It’s just steps from JR Miwa Station and a short walk to Miwa Shrine and its huge torii gate. We were comfortable in both the rooms and bathing area, and loved the traditional Japanese setting, especially the courtyard garden. We highly recommend Taishoro Ryokan for a traditional Japanese inn experience.

The room was spacious, very clean, and nicely furnished, and we appreciated having our futon ready when we returned from the hot bath in the evening. The staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive, and we felt warmly welcomed at Taishoro Ryokan. It’s a few minutes’ walk from the station and close to the main sights. We enjoyed the atmosphere of this little city and the magical feel of the forest path. I highly recommend it.

Mr Misahiro, the proprietor, was very hospitable. The ryokan is well placed near Omiwa Shrine and several excellent somen restaurants, and I had a great stay.
