APA Hotel Sapporo Odori Ekimae Minami

We booked through Agoda, and my five-night stay over Christmas was the worst hotel experience of my life. I’m over 60 and have traveled extensively, so I’m sincerely disappointed. There were four of us, with two laptops and an iPad. We politely asked if our luggage could be placed somewhere stable and secure so the devices wouldn’t be dropped, since they held important data. A staff member named "x Chiku " showed us the policy saying the hotel wasn’t responsible for losses. When we tried to explain in English that we only wanted careful handling, she kept saying "No" and made us sign a waiver. She wore what seemed like a fake polite smile, ignored us when we spoke English, and turned away to serve other guests three times while we were still talking. That felt arrogant and dismissive, and unacceptable for hospitality service. We had booked two double rooms. One smelled unbearably of cigarette smoke. When I asked to change rooms, the same staff member kept saying "No way/Impossible" and offered no solution. Only after I became visibly upset did an English-speaking colleague step in. Even then, we were told there were no rooms available, and had to stay in a cramped, unpleasant room that looked like a temporary construction worksite, as shown in the attached photos. The hotel provided complimentary bottled water only on the first day, so we had to buy our own for the other four. Housekeeping was inconvenient as well. If the "Clean My Room" sign wasn’t up by 9:00 AM, staff simply hung two bags of towels on the door handle and refused to clean. Seeing laundry bags hanging from many hallway doors at night made the place look like a low-end dormitory instead of a professional hotel.
