Hotel Stripe Sapporo

The apartment was spacious and cozy, and self check-in and checkout were quick and easy. It got a little cold, so I used the AC to warm it up, which worked fine. The cleanliness was okay, except for a smell coming from the bathroom drains.

The laundry was a plus because it was convenient to have on site, though some machines were old or broken, and you could lose a few coins. I lost 200 yen in one machine without getting my clothes washed, then had to pay again to use a different one. There were plenty of other problems too: the place wasn’t clean, check-in and checkout were a little confusing, there was no luggage storage, and the furniture was falling apart. The tap water setup was an old style with a risk of contamination from backwater, and there was no staff around to help. I know it was cheap, but it wasn’t that cheap, and I found much nicer places in Sapporo for a similar price. I can’t recommend it.

I stayed four nights in one of the hotel residence apartments. Inside, it was clean apart from the condition of the trash can in the entrance hall, but several features weren’t practical. The ladder up to the top bunk slanted, and the wooden bed frame felt wobbly, like it might come apart. Lights in the hallway and the room beside the bed couldn’t be switched off from the bed because their controls were by the entrance. From the top bunk, there was no nearby outlet for my laptop, so I had to leave it downstairs on the table.

There was questionable cleaning, and someone yelled in the middle of the night on two of the five nights we stayed. With no staff there to clean or keep an eye on the place, it could have been nice if someone had been managing it.
