Our room had a private onsen overlooking the forest, and it was clean and lovely. The hotel itself was spacious and beautiful, and the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. They even made the beds while we were at dinner so we could come back and relax, which was such a thoughtful touch. Dinner starts at 6.30pm, so don't fill up beforehand. The courses were fantastic and we were completely full by the end. The server was sweet and funny, and although she said her English wasn't great, she did her best to explain each dish and communicate with us. There are treats served at a few different times during the day, including breakfast, tea time, and late-night snacks, plus free-flow alcohol. The snacks were so good, especially the baked goods. We also had free tea and biscuits in the room. Try the sable. I ended up buying every flavor from the souvenir shop. Breakfast was amazing too. Jozankei is beautiful and peaceful, and one day didn't feel like enough. This was the highlight of my Hokkaido trip, and I'd love to return. The team gave us a small souvenir with a handwritten note for my birthday trip, which was really sweet. Thanks for taking such good care of us! They run a free shuttle from Sapporo. Book the return ride online ahead of time because seats are limited.

We had a great room with its own onsen. Just outside the room there was a mirror and sink, a certificate showing the water had been tested, and free-flow beer, coffee, tea, and condiments. Staff carried our luggage and showed us in, then explained how everything worked. The one drawback was scaffolding outside our windows. Hopefully it gets removed before the next guests arrive. The sashimi dinner and breakfast were both superb. The fish was very fresh compared with places outside Sapporo, and the umi was not fishy, with a really rich umami taste. The staff bringing the dishes were excellent too. The hotel also has snacks available at set times, a library, and public and private onsens. Getting there takes about an hour by bus from Sapporo. The rapid bus is 1400 yen and may need to be reserved, while the regular one costs 700+ yen. Follow Google Maps and you should be fine.

We really enjoyed the kaiseki dinner, though there are different tiers to choose from when booking. The hotel also had lots of complimentary snacks and a free evening bar, and parking across the road was very convenient. Our room included a private onsen, with plenty of public baths available as well. The service was outstanding, and the staff were especially accommodating when adjusting meals for my dad, who doesn't eat raw food. They replaced his sashimi with boiled king crab. It was a relaxing, memorable stay at Jyozankei Daiichi Hotel Suizantei, and I'd happily recommend it.

The rooms felt a little dated and small for what they cost, but the baths were exquisite, both in the rooms and in the shared areas. Every meal was delicious, and the bars, snacks, and drinks between meals were generous. DHS is right in the heart of Jozankei and gives you a great all-in-one onsen stay, so it's worth considering for a visit.

The service was awful, with a rude attitude throughout. We were first given the wrong room and left there for 3 hours. After going to the front desk, we finally got the right one 4 hours after checking in. Nobody apologized. Then they sent us to the wrong dinner restaurant. We were turned away there, went back to the desk, and got redirected to another restaurant that felt inferior. Again, there were excuses but no apology or compensation. These so-called famous hotels are best avoided.
