Lamp Light Books Hotel Sapporo

The cafe downstairs was a real plus, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We booked an affordable moderate double room, clean and just roomy enough for two, and were happy with our two-night stay. The location made it easy to get around: Tanuki Koji Shopping Street is nearby, Ramen Alley is walkable, and public transport is convenient for trips to Otaru and the museums. I'd recommend staying here.

There's a bookshop cafe on the ground floor, a nice quiet spot where people read or study, with coffee, tea and cakes. The rooms are on the small side, but Sapporo has plenty to do outside. This is a gorgeous boutique hotel on one of the city's main shopping streets, with the nearest subway station a reasonable walk away. Staff are friendly and know enough basic English to help if you need it.

The room change didn't solve the problem. After finding a strong urine smell in the first toilet, I asked staff to clean it, but they moved me to another room instead. That bathroom smelled the same, and under the toilet seat there were lots of urine stains. I was tired and it was late, so I gave up on complaining again. This happened in two rooms, which seems like a serious housekeeping issue. I didn't take a photo because it was too disgusting. Women planning to stay here, please be careful. I wouldn't recommend it.

The vegetarian breakfast choices could be better. Apart from that, it was a delightful stay, with helpful staff, great value and a very cool hotel in a covered shopping arcade.
