Nikoh Capsule Hotel Refre - Hostel - Caters to Men

This seems to be a men-only hotel, and I didn’t enjoy my stay. If you’re mainly interested in the spa, I’d make it a day trip instead. The location is excellent, close to plenty of things and good food. Cleanliness gets a 2: the old carpet doesn’t seem like it could ever really be clean, and not being allowed to wear shoes or slippers felt uncomfortable. The pod and bathroom were okay, but the air smelled stale. Pod comfort is also a 2. The foam pads were thin, the blankets cheap, and there was no ventilation, so it got hot and smelled of smoke and air freshener. I suspect ventilation from the smoking room went through the rest of the building. It was quiet, though. Amenities get 3.5: there’s a Japanese-style bath, a manga relaxation room, and a restaurant, but I didn’t find either area comfortable. The lockers are extremely narrow, too small for a hard suitcase. I had to unpack some things from my backpack, which wasn’t even large. The atmosphere and staff get a 2. It felt sleazy, almost like a love hotel at first, with gambling machines in the smoking room on the pod floor and lots of massage ads. As someone who mostly speaks English, I didn’t find the staff very helpful, though they did have a mostly understandable hotel handout.
