Kudo-san made our stay especially lovely. He picked us up, drove us back to the train station, and cooked us Japanese breakfast both mornings. It was easy to communicate because he speaks English comfortably. Thank you again, Kudo-san, for welcoming us to your 70-year-old Japanese home in Sapporo! We stayed two nights and enjoyed the change from a standard Western-style hotel. The house was always nicely warm, the shared bathrooms stayed clean, and the next tram stop is close by for getting into the city centre.

From the ride from Sapporo Station to the delicious breakfast, everything at Shabby House felt caring and warm. The owner-san was incredibly generous with his attention. Thank you so much. If I come back to Sapporo, I’ll stay here again. Wishing you all the best.

Mr Kado was one of the best guest house hosts I’ve met. He used to be a sushi chef, has lived in the USA, and was considerate, friendly, and easy to talk to. The place is a converted old Japanese home, about a 15-minute walk from the Susukino area, the main downtown hub. It’s good for solo backpackers and maybe small groups. It’s quite small, but doesn’t feel cramped like some guesthouses. The sleeping area is spacious, though the bathing setup feels like showering in a cabin in the woods. Public parking is inexpensive compared with spots farther into the city.

The man was so friendly, and my girlfriend and I really liked him. I’ll definitely come back on my last day in Hokkaido. I wouldn’t pass up another chance to sleep there.

Shabby House is an old but warm place, and Kudo san is really helpful and friendly. The traditional Japanese breakfast is simple and tasty. It’s a good choice if you’re on a tight budget and don’t want to spend all your money on fancy places. The supermarket and the bus stop for downtown are both a five-minute walk away. I recommend it.
