We visited in winter, when everything was covered in snow, and I’m already hoping to return in spring. The river view is incredible, the place is stunning, and the food was amazing.

With just five rooms, this inn feels wonderfully secluded. Each one has its own outdoor bath, and the view of the Arakawa river from its bend is fantastic. I also enjoyed taking a walk across the bridge.

The meals were a highlight, with generous portions and lots of different little dishes. We stayed in the Momiji room, which has both a private indoor bath and an outdoor one. Beautiful river views, kind staff, and a great stay. 10/10!

This ryokan really stands out, even in the peaceful, charming surroundings of Niigata. The chef prepares a special dinner menu featuring greens gathered by local people from the region, with real skill, quality, and a touch of humor. Traveling around the Japanese countryside for stock photography projects has led me to some absolute hidden gems like this one.
