We were grateful for the whole experience and would happily stay at Takanosukan again. The nature around the inn is incredibly beautiful, so make time to explore it. We first had a room in the main building, which we already liked a lot, then they kindly offered us a Japanese style cabin. The atmosphere there was impeccable, and both the public hot spring bath and the cabin's bath were superb. There was plenty of delicious food, really so much, and the staff were friendly with exceptional service. They even helped us mail all our souvenirs home through Japan Post. We bought some at the gift shop, which has postcards, pens, chopsticks, socks, Yukata, and more. I also got a smaller Yukata for my little sister at a very fair price.

The room and meals were so good that we wouldn't have quibbled if this onsen inn were listed as six stars instead of four. Most staff don't speak English, but the interns do a great job. Linh, an intern from Vietnam, was assigned to our "villa" and spoke fairly good English. Otherwise, the conversation feature in our trusty Google Translate app did the trick. The meals were amazing too!

Dinner came right to our spacious, comfortable room, and free rental bikes were available. The ryokan is quiet and soothing, with lovely river sounds and views. You reach it over a suspension bridge, and there's also a campsite nearby.

It's a bit remote from the main rail station, though staff can pick you up at the nearest one. The natural surroundings and river view are lovely. The food was good, and there's a bath in the room.
