Saryou Souen

The chef went out of his way to handle our special dietary needs, and every entrée was delicious and beautifully presented. We also felt very welcome throughout our stay at Saryo Soen in Sendai. The whole staff was wonderful, and our room was comfortable, beautifully kept, and exceptional. Kaneko Toyoko was a great help with securing our reservations, and our room attendant, Suganuma-San, took outstanding care of us. It was a perfect experience, and I highly recommend Saryo Soen.

Our dinners were delicious and beautifully presented, and I loved the tatami flooring. We stayed in Tsukikage and Asahi, both with an outdoor deck and engawa overlooking a lovely garden. When I called the front desk to adjust the onsen temperature in our room, a professional onsen technologist came with a needle thermometer to make sure it was just right. We took the shuttle from the ground-level door at Sendai station. The countryside scenery on the way was so peaceful, like a movie about summer in a rural village. Kind uncles and aunties looked after us during our stay.

That outdoor hot spring bath connected to our room was perfection. We loved every minute at Saryo Souen, from the service and food to the whole vibe. Everything was amazing.

The in-room dinner was amazing, even better than the in-room hot spring, which had no view. Service was wonderful too, except for one pretty scary moment: a cleaning man suddenly showed up in the bath area while I was having dinner. It’s a high-end resort, but the experience wasn’t quite as good as the high price suggested.
