Bettei Koshinosato

The only thing I missed was the gel-like beauty water, which is the main feature of Tsukioka Onsen. It's available in the large communal bath, but not in the room's open-air bath. Otherwise, I was very satisfied. The Japanese-style room was clean, the food was delicious, and the amenities and minibar were well stocked. For two people, I thought the rate of 100,000 yen a night was well worth it. This may be the highest-grade hotel we could find in Tsukioka Onsen town, and I'd like to come back.

Dinner and breakfast were both delicious, with plenty of local dishes. The onsen in the main building has authentic water with a high sulfur concentration and a peaceful view of a Japanese garden. A soak there in the evening felt really healing. Back at the annex, the lounge overlooks a carefully manicured Japanese garden and has unlimited drinks and snacks. My husband and I stayed here recently and loved the blend of tradition and comfort. The ryokan has a long history, yet it's exceptionally clean and well cared for. We stayed in the annex, Kaho's smaller counterpart, where guests can use the new onsen built in 2023 and enter the indoor heated pool for free. Our room was spacious, beautiful, and spotless, with more than I expected for amenities, including beauty masks, a hair curler and straightener, and several kinds of hand towels. The views were stunning, with snow-covered fields below. It's a beautiful place, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone visiting Niigata.

The room was spacious and clean, and the service was great. This is the best onsen hotel I've stayed at. I'll be back next year.

The property, food, rooms, and service are all top class, and reflect Japan's omotenashi. It really doesn't get better than this.
