Hiogiso

A lovely quiet setting, with a very nice host. The room was clean, and breakfast was simple but delicious.

It’s a very Japanese, wooden hotel right on the waterfront, and the hot spring facilities are a real plus. The rooms are roomy, nearly twice the size of hotel rooms in city Nagoya. Plan to drive there before it gets too dark in the evening. Paying a little extra to include dinner and breakfast is great value.

The Hiogiso gave Alex and me such a beautiful, memorable stay. We’re from Australia and had both breakfast and dinner included, which let us try authentic Japanese food and traditional dining. The beds were really comfortable, the onsen was lovely, and the funny dogs and goats gave us a laugh. It was so peaceful and relaxing that we added another night. Well worth the visit, and we’ll be back next year. Thanks again, Rachel and Alex.

After travelling and hiking the Japan trail in Kyushu, we treated ourselves to our final night at Hiogisou, and it really was a treat. It’s a beautifully furnished, welcoming haven by the sea. The hosts were friendly and humorous while still being respectful, and the food and service were the best we experienced anywhere in Japan. If you get the chance to stay a night or two at Hiogosou in the Ise Shima park, I highly recommend it.
