Izu Shimoda Beach House1

This is based on a stay from a few years ago, so I can't say what it's like now. I visited in summer, and with air conditioning only in the kitchen, the bedroom was unbearably hot at night. I left food on the kitchen table, and in the morning black things were swarming over it. I had planned several nights but left after one. The photos look nice at first, but the place clearly wasn't maintained. If they charge this much, they should clean and maintain it properly. The management company was just lazy. I figured a review like this would get deleted right away, but it's true, so what's the point of a review?

Getting to the place was difficult because it's up on a hill, and we couldn't use the first floor. The bathroom and toilet had outside doors whose locks wouldn't secure properly. After all that, the bathroom was so small. It looked better in the photos than it was in reality. The entry door opened and closed using a string, which made me uneasy at night. There was no hot water, so I called the management company, but they said they didn't know what to do. A specialist came and fixed it just by pressing a button. They told us to leave the hot water running so it wouldn't stop. With a lot of people, we didn't know how much we'd use, but we kept using the bath and were charged extra even after they told us the water amount. They said there'd be no charge if we knew the manager. Stingy place. I'll never go back!

The atmosphere was amazing, almost like being overseas. The plumbing was fine, and the heating and air conditioning worked well, so I was comfortable throughout my stay.

The room stayed warm even without the wood-burning stove, and the food selection was excellent.
