I booked the 8-tatami room and was upgraded to one with a toilet inside, so I really can't complain. The room itself was fantastic, and the view was beautiful, with the sound of the waves adding to the stay. There's a private onsen that's free and easy to use. I'd stay here again. I really loved my visit.
The room had a lovely beach view and was spacious for a hotel in Japan. Breakfast was included, just bread and coffee. My one gripe was the timing: check-in at 4 pm and check-out at 10 am 🥲
From the window, you can hear the waves and take in a spectacular view, just as the inn's name suggests. The beach is a minute from the car park, and my early morning walk there was exceptional. The meal was delicious, made with fresh local ingredients, and fish lovers should be very satisfied. Some parts of the facilities are a little worn, though well maintained. The staff were attentive and helpful, and I felt at ease during my overnight stay. I think this guesthouse is a hidden gem.
The room's floor sagged, so I had to be careful about where I slept. The bear's design was odd too, and made getting in and out difficult. I had high hopes for the chef's cooking, but it wasn't especially delicious. Surfers crowd the parking lot early in the morning, so watch out or you could get stuck and unable to get your car out.
We stayed at the start of September. Every room faces Shirahama Beach, and it's only a short walk down, so you can go play and come right back. There's an outdoor shower near the entrance. The sea-facing bath uses clear water from Shimoda Onsen, and we could watch the sunrise over the ocean from there. As of September 2022, bathing was by private reservation, so we had the view to ourselves. Breakfast and dinner were delicious too.
