Kokumin Shukusha Sugikubo House

We spent a full week here in January and I already miss it. The hotel sits in a quiet community by a gorgeous lake, with a mountain range nearby and several resorts to ride at. The hospitality was the best I've ever experienced, and the staff were wonderful, especially Chris, Josh, Taiga and Isla. Chris and the crew made our stay so much fun. I almost wanted to keep the place a secret, but it's too good not to share. Leaving was hard, and I'm grateful for the whole week. Arigato!

The lake views and scenery are incredible, and the rooms are a good size. Just know they don't have private bathrooms. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful, even helping dig cars out of snowdrifts in the morning. The restaurant was good too, especially since many nearby places close for winter. I hope we can come back.

You get a lake view from the rooms, and the location right in front of the water is easy to find and convenient. The rooms and amenities were clean and nice, and the staff were kind. I believe the bath is shared. The owner is Aussie, has lived in Japan long term, and is super friendly. I was glad I stayed and would recommend it.

The staff were especially helpful when we ran into car trouble. They found us a mechanic and drove us back to our vehicle. Thanks so much to Chris and Utta! We stayed in the family room overlooking the lake, which was spacious, had very comfortable beds, and a beautiful view. The onsen-style bath was lovely too.
