Hotel Sun Resort Shirahama

It has an onsen and sauna included, and is very good for the price. It's a little out of the way, but ideal if you like quieter areas.

The food was tasty, and I really relaxed in the hot springs. The tub bath in the room felt unusual in a nice way, and the inn itself is a good place to unwind. It sits near the tourist attractions but in a quiet spot, so I thought the location worked well. The open-air bath has a great view from the hill. Moving from the indoor bath to the outdoor one gives you a glimpse of the residential area, though I wonder if it's really so unusual that people outside can see in. Men and women take turns using the baths morning and evening. The hair dryer has weak airflow. If you've got long hair, you may want to bring your own.

The food was delicious, and the view from the rooftop and open-air baths was amazing. The room has a small open-air tub, which could feel a bit tight for a larger person. The hot spring itself was proper, though I'm not sure if the tub bath in the room is the same.

I booked a twin room without meals, room 313. The facilities are old, but clean and well cared for, and at this price I'd stay again. A nearby Oakwa supermarket made it easy to pick up prepared food and sashimi, and the two-door refrigerator in the room was already cold. The open-air bath has a beautiful view, even though the water is odorless and slightly salty, so it doesn't feel much like a traditional hot spring. There was no one around when I recorded the view in the video. I also enjoyed the little tub on the balcony. I filled it with hot water at check-in without diluting it, and it was still warm and very comfortable when I used it at night and later on. There was a faint cigarette smell in the room whenever I came in. It seems to be left over from when it was a smoking room; I got used to it after a while, but still noticed it each time. I asked the front desk when booking whether I could request a non-smoking room, but the current staff said they didn't know about the time when rooms were designated for smoking. It may be a good idea to ask when you book.
