Kiyonami Hotel

The bed was roomy, the place was well kept, and having an outlet by it made charging my phone easy. I think the family-run feel is part of why it was comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, with care put into each dish, though the miso soup tasted a bit strong. I only had coffee and tea, and since I was alone in the first-floor dining room, I could relax. I picked the hotel for its position between JR Shimizu Station and Shin-Shimizu Station, which suited my plans. There aren’t any convenience stores close by, but there’s a 24-hour one near the station, about a five-minute walk away. I was a little uneasy that anyone could enter, and the door key doesn’t lock automatically. The tub is small and not really for a long soak, and you can only fill it with hot water from the shower.

The owner was friendly, and the place had a warm feel. My room was for smokers, which was tough for me as a non-smoker, but I enjoyed the breakfast even though I don’t usually eat in the morning. We were there on a weekend and saw quite a few families and visitors from overseas. It’s around ten minutes on foot from Shimizu Station, in a quiet residential area. The Chibi Maruko-chan-themed shop by the nearby Tomoe River and Shimizu Fishing Port are close by. I’d like to return if I get the chance.

Breakfast was tastier than I expected. I don’t usually have much appetite in the morning, but I enjoyed it. The front desk staff kindly explained how to get to Shimizu Port Fish Market Restaurant, which was about a ten-minute walk on the far side of the station. I’d driven, so the hotel not being right by the station wasn’t an issue.

The room was roomy enough to spread out in, and the service was excellent, so I didn’t have many complaints about staying here. The unit-bath shower had great pressure and seemed recently redone. Still, the air conditioner really smells, there’s no auto-lock, sound carries, and parking is limited.
