Smile Hotel Shizuoka

This was my second time at a Smile Hotel, and I came away very satisfied again. The rooms are clean, quiet, and comfortable, and the staff are kind and courteous. In Shizuoka, the location was handy for the train station. The rooms are a little dated, but everything worked well and the facilities had everything I needed. For what I paid, I was very happy with the stay. I'd look to return and can recommend it.

The staff were kind and nice, and getting to and from Shizuoka station was easy, even with big luggage. The place is cozy and has a Fujisan view, though seeing the mountain from your room depends a bit on luck.

On the second night, we opened the door and found that the smoke smell was completely gone. We even called it a miracle, and thanked God in Jesus Christ. But that came after a really bad stay. We had booked and paid for a non-smoking room through booking.com, yet the whole hotel smelled like a smoking area. The smoke in our room was heavy and strong, like being in a dingy bar full of active smokers, and the lift smelled of it too. We were travelling with kids, and the staff couldn't help. Some staff said there were non-smoking rooms, while others said all the rooms allowed smoking. We were stuck with a room whose furniture and air seemed soaked in smoke. We'd paid for two nights, and nearby hotels were mostly full because of a conference. Please list the rooms honestly, or improve the ventilation and separation between smoking and non-smoking rooms. After reading similar complaints about other Smile Hotel branches, we won't stay at ANY Smile Hotel again.

It's about an 8-minute walk from JR Shizuoka Station, and I could see Mt. Fuji from my room, though it was a bit far away. The service was great, and the building and rooms are well looked after. There's a big dining area for breakfast. On the ground floor by reception, you can pick up amenities like robes, toothbrushes, combs, body sponges, and q-tips. A microwave is near the front, and the 4th and 8th floors have laundry facilities and ice machines. The room had a mini fridge, a TV, and bedside light controls. Heating and cooling are central for the whole building, so in summer you can switch the A/C on or off but can't select heating. That's probably not something you'd want anyway.
