Tessen Guesthouse

The shared kitchen is well equipped, and there’s a nearby mart open 24/7 if you want to pick up ingredients to cook. Parking is available for guests driving around. The rooms are comfortable and spacious, and the hotel’s interior feels cozy, clean, and very well decorated. I loved the art on the walls!

Our family of seven really enjoyed our three-day stay at Guesthouse Tessen during our visit to Shizuoka. It’s a beautiful, traditional, quiet, and clean guesthouse, and the hosts were friendly and very accommodating. They even let us have the entire guesthouse to ourselves. Sharing can work too, though how it goes depends on whether the other guests are friendly and willing to share the common spaces. The location was great: an easy walk from Sakurabashi station, very close to a 24-hour supermarket, and there’s parking. The host also told us about Uodai nearby for dinner, and we highly recommend it. The tatami rooms and beds were comfortable, though we could have used a few more pillows. The walls are thin, as in traditional houses, so light sleepers might want ear plugs. One small suggestion: full-size towels would have been nicer than the small washcloths provided. Otherwise, everything was great. Thank you Yukiko and Takai!

We spent about two months at Tessen during our trip in Japan. The owners are lovely and were very helpful while we were staying in Shimizu city. The guesthouse is well located near a train station, with a supermarket and restaurants within a five-minute walk. The rooms are cozy and decorated in a traditional Japanese style.

The owner and his wife are super friendly, and they even lent us their bicycles, which made exploring Shizuoka really pleasant. The lovely house would suit larger groups too. We loved our stay and can only recommend it if you find yourself in Shizuoka!
