The view from my riverside room's veranda in mid-November, with the autumn leaves at their peak, was magnificent. I could have spent hours just looking at it. The place was spotless, and I had no complaints about the meals either. They were carefully prepared, delicious, and felt worth more than what I paid. The friendly owner and landlady seem to run the inn mostly on their own, and I really admire how hard they work. It's a lot to handle, but I hope they keep going. The hot spring is the real highlight. Guests switch between lukewarm water straight from the source and heated water. The source bath is around 36 degrees, with a strong sulfur smell and hot spring minerals floating in it. It's so mild that you can stay in for a long time, but this is a rich spring, so staying in too long without care could leave you feeling cold. This is one of the few inns on Umegashima where you can enjoy genuine, direct-flowing hot spring water.

We were the only guests, which surprised us since it was a weekday in the middle of Golden Week. With our room right in front of the bath, we could enjoy the thick hot spring water as often as we wanted. Breakfast was a hit too, especially the homemade hot spring buns and tofu. We ate everything. If you want hot springs, good food, and greenery, this is the place.
I first stayed in October and liked it enough to come back at the end of the year. The Shamo hotpot and wild boar hotpot were both delicious, as was the grilled amago trout. The hot spring is small, but the thick water felt great. I also enjoyed the Shizuoka tea in the room and the homey atmosphere. I'll definitely return.
The bath's tub with water straight from the source is small, and it can feel cramped for two, depending on how the other person is sitting. I also wish the alcoholic drinks cost a little less. The spring water didn't live up to what I expected. Saying it feels like lotion is definitely an exaggeration. The food is simple, with some homemade dishes, but nothing particularly memorable. For the price, which feels quite high, I'd rate it harshly. To me, it would be worth up to 15,000 yen per person for one night with two meals. If I visit Umegashima Onsen again, I'll probably stay at a different inn, and I don't think I'll return to Umegashima Onsen itself.
For 12,000 yen on a weekday, I think this is the best place in Umegashima. The spring is excellent, a free-flowing Umegashima mixed spring and hydrogen sulfide spring. The rooms are clean, with a toilet inside, and the veranda has a table and chairs. The bathroom and ceiling were clean and free of mold, and there's even an elevator. The meals are elaborate. The hostess is down to earth, wears an apron, and has a service style much like the other Umegashima ryokans.
