Dinner is served at the time slot you choose, and the one-night plan with dinner costs ¥7,500. Check-in begins at 3 PM. The inn is run by an elderly couple, and PayPay is accepted. The room has eight tatami mats and its own separate toilet. It comes with a TV, kettle, teacups, yukata, towels, bath towels and disposable toothbrushes, though there’s no refrigerator. The two-story building has a bathroom, a microwave, and both Japanese- and Western-style toilets with washlets. The bath is a weakly alkaline simple hot spring, and you can use it in the morning.

Dinner and breakfast were both just the right size, with that home-cooked, eating-at-home feel. It’s a traditional Japanese inn with a Showa-era atmosphere. The rooms are dated, but clean.

The room window mostly looks onto nearby rooftops, with distant mountains beyond, since the buildings are packed closely together. The bath, which uses circulated mineral-heated water, was pleasantly warming and better than I expected. The booking site listed 24-hour bathing, but a sign at the inn said the bath closed after 9 pm. Morning bathing was allowed. I stayed on a nationwide travel support plan that included dinner and breakfast at this couple-run business inn on a street in central Sumita town. Dinner was generous, mainly meat and sashimi. Breakfast was a standard Japanese spread with salmon, natto, seaweed and more. The seasoning was good, and I enjoyed the food. For the price, I was very satisfied with the meals and bath. Thank you very much m(_ _)m

I arrived at the stated 6:30 dinner time and tried one of the fritters. It was cold, not even lukewarm. Frozen food can still taste good when it’s warm. I’d picked this restaurant because so many reviews praised the food. The much-praised dinner turned out to be two commercially prepared frozen oyster fritters, one shrimp fritter, one scallop fritter, a few dried sashimi pieces I couldn’t identify, and a small side dish. I ate quietly, like bait.

Takahashi Ryokan is in the Setamai area, along the nostalgic old highway. Related information about "Mori Kaido": Mori is the birthplace and origin of Mos Burger 🍔.
