The outdoor baths let you soak up the sounds of nature, with insects buzzing all around and cool mountain breezes. It's been a while since my last visit, but this is still one of my favorite hot springs in the area. It's out in the countryside, though well worth the trip. Hope you get to relax and enjoy a soak there!
I enjoyed the lunch, but there wasn't much protein for the price.
The water is unusual, with a cloudy, sulfur-like look and sour taste, and sometimes oil floats on top. Some people may not care for it, but I found it pretty good. I've lived near Gunma Prefecture for years and have family and close friends from there, yet had never heard of this place until now. It seems like a long-standing favorite with locals. I arrived in the afternoon when the restaurant was about to close, so I didn't get to eat. I'd like to come back in the morning and take my time, and I would definitely visit again.
I love hot springs, and as a taxi driver I'd recommend this one. The salt-rich water warmed me up so much that I still felt warm after getting out. You can really relax surrounded by nature. For a meal, the kamameshi is delicious and cooked fresh, though they only make 20 servings a day.
We made a day trip from Maebashi City, about an hour away, and the hot spring was worth the drive. The water had a strong oily smell that I found very pleasant. The outdoor bath was roomy and a little cooler, just right for me, while the indoor bath felt a bit hot. Nearby Amagagawa Onsen runs an observatory where they explained the stars in detail. It was fun, and free.
