Oyado Yamakyu

We hated to leave. The staff were so friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. After exploring the historic district, we came back to a delicious multi-course dinner with dishes we knew and some new to us. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty too. On arrival, we had tea in our tatami room before heading out. It was a wonderful way to experience a little Japanese culture.

Every meal was stunning, and the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. We brought our students for two nights, and this was easily the best place we’ve stayed during school trips in the past 10 years. We’ll definitely come back if we need accommodation again. It was the best ryokan!

The location is great, on the edge of town and in front of the temples. We got a free pickup from the train and bus station, and everyone was so friendly and helpful. They spoke a decent amount of English. We stayed two nights, with excellent dinners and plentiful breakfast. The rooms were comfortable and had good AC. The onsen was hot but great. The traditional bedding wasn’t the most comfortable bed in the world, but we enjoyed our stay anyway.

The onsen was clean and really nice, and our room was spacious and spotless too. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious, beautifully presented, and generous enough to leave even big eaters satisfied. The staff managed to be very professional and genuinely friendly. My girlfriend and I didn't want to go home, and I'm already planning a return trip to Takayama just to stay here again. Best hotel I've ever visited.
