The hosts were really friendly and speak Japanese, Chinese, and English. The accommodation was clean, and it’s a great base for a visit to Takayama.

We went during the Obon holidays, and the owners were gentle and kind, so our stay was comfortable. The rates were reasonable, and the place is near Hida Takayama’s tourist area. Our room was small but worked fine for us. Their well water was famously cold and tasty, and you can use it for coffee or tea too. We only ate breakfast since we went out for dinner. The homemade egg pancakes were delicious and very filling. Dogs can come into the dining room, and the pancakes were a hit. We noticed other guests having Japanese-style food, so there may be a Japanese breakfast plan as well. The walls are thin, and we could hear people upstairs and next door. I was tired enough to sleep through it without much trouble. Next time I’d like to try dinner here too. Thanks so much. 😊

We stayed with our small dog and found the family running the place warm and welcoming. The parking is right outside. Just past the entrance there are a few stairs, then a spot to leave your shoes, with a damp towel provided for wiping your dog’s paws. Our room was clean and had a loft with an extra futon. It felt like a business hotel room and wasn’t especially roomy, but despite being pet-friendly there was no unpleasant hair or dirt. The walls are very thin, even thinner than in a Leopalace apartment, so keep that in mind if you’re fussy about noise or cleanliness. The bathroom is a unit with the toilet in it. The fridge and microwave are shared, and yukata and a hair dryer are kept outside the rooms for guests to take in. You can pick a meal time within the offered window. Dinner was Hida beef shabu-shabu and yakiniku, plus homemade steamed buns and lots of food. We were stuffed. The home-style seasoning was delicious and left us both happy and full. Breakfast was tortillas and tasty. Other guests had Japanese food, so there seems to be a Japanese meal plan too. Dogs that don’t bark too much may join guests in the dining area. I was ready to take mine back to the room if he barked, but he stayed quiet and we could eat together. With the prefectural residents’ discount, we got 4,000 yen in Gifu travel coins, making the effective cost 13,000 yen for two adults with two meals. My dog chewed the wooden key chain, and I worried about the damage charge, but they just said it was okay. 😂 Everyone was so friendly and warm, it seemed like a family business. I definitely want to go again! 😆

The owners were so kind and welcoming, it really warmed my heart. We came with our dog and kids, and it was a lovely stay for all of us. The food was simple but delicious, with lots of vegetables as well as Hida beef. With vegetable prices having gone up so much, I appreciated that they used plenty, and the meals weren’t leaning on fried or heavily seasoned dishes. As other guests have said, the food is great. The building is historic, yet very clean and well cared for. Well water comes right from the room tap, and they leave coffee and tea supplies for it. It tasted great. It was below freezing outside, but the room was warmed just before we arrived, so it felt cozy. The loft in our room was a big hit with the kids. Some reviews mention the bath is small. It’s a pension, so if you want a larger bath, a hot spring inn might suit you better.

We stayed without meals on this first visit, but reviews suggest the food is generous, so next time I’d like to book meals too. There aren’t many places that welcome pets. This pension is a bit far from the old town, but I’d checked the route on Google Street View and found it without trouble. The owners are originally from China. They spoke Japanese and were very kind and polite. Our room was clean and had no smell at all, which surprised me for a pet-friendly place. The toilet and bath were a little dated. There are several private homes around the pension. The view is nice in daylight, but it gets very dark and quiet at night, so walking around isn’t really possible.
