Takinoue Hotel Keikoku

We had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant throughout our stay. The food was good, fairly standard, and worth recommending. They even made a special egg and bread breakfast for my kid, which was a lovely touch. The staff were friendly, and some of the front desk staff spoke English. The indoor onsen is small, but it stayed quiet and wasn’t crowded during our February winter visit. There was no need to compete for space in the public bath, though locals do use it.

Bubbles, a hot onsen, a cold pool, and a sauna made this a really relaxing, lovely onsen.

I was touched by how thoughtful the staff were. Since I planned to leave early for sightseeing, I mentioned at check-in that I might miss breakfast. Around 6:45 in the morning, they got in touch to say they’d prepared rice balls and asked me to try some. They were delicious, and I ate them on the way home. Thank you very much.

I’ve been to Hokkaido twice a year in every season, and this is one of the best rural public lodgings I’ve stayed at. I’ve passed by the hotel so many times and still wonder why I hadn’t stayed before. Next time I’m in the area, I’ll be back. For dinner, I recommend ordering from the hotel restaurant’s à la carte menu. There’s a great variety, the portions are generous, and it’s good value for money. In big cities, I usually stay at business hotels.
