Tamba No Yado Keisen

There aren't many places to stay around Tamba, and this one is good value, even in peak season. The meals have lots of flavor, with assorted small dishes and a focus on quality broth. Rooms are simple but clean, and the bathroom and changing area are both spacious and clean.

I was in the area for work and finally stayed at this inn I'd been curious about. I expected somewhere quite old and worn, but it pleasantly surprised me. (^^;; The meals were fantastic, with just the right portions at both dinner and breakfast. They also had a broad selection of quality alcoholic drinks, and I really enjoyed the house-roasted coffee in the morning. The room was spotless, and the large public bath was sparkling clean and very comfortable. For what it offers, the value is incredible. If it were in a tourist area, I wouldn't be surprised if it cost three times as much. Next time I'll come back and try the wild boar hot pot. ^ ^

We'd like to come back. The staff who welcomed us were sincere and helpful, and the room was clean and beautiful. We also really enjoyed the food. The bath made a strong impression, with water at just the right temperature.

The guest rooms could use a few more amenities. There's no TV, but the website makes that clear, so it wasn't an issue. The missing refrigerator was inconvenient. It was winter, so leaving things outside worked well enough, though I imagine summer would be much harder. The building is old, but the interior has been nicely renovated and everything was convenient. The bathroom in particular was very clean.
