The view from Kuroi Castle ruins was worth the climb this time. I’d tried to reach the top two years ago and couldn’t, and although I’d heard there was a black bear around, I made it to the main keep and was really pleased with the scenery. I’d love to catch the sea of clouds next time, so I’d stay here again if I get the chance. The hotel worked well for sightseeing around Tamba, with JR Kuroi Station nearby during my trip through Hyogo, Osaka, and Kyoto. My single room was roomy and comfortable, with its own bath and toilet. There were both a large and a small bath, and we had the large one to ourselves that day. Dinner was tasty too, especially the minced meat cutlets and sukiyaki-style hotpot.

The host knew we’d been cycling and thoughtfully brought us sweet wine in the morning to help us get our energy back. We were also sent off with tangerines, which was very kind of them. The place was easy to find, and when we arrived our room was already warm, clean, and quiet.

I haven’t been back since my work nearby ended, though I’d like to visit again. Back when I was working in the area, I used to stay here at the end of the year and was always satisfied. The couple are very kind, and the food is delicious, maybe because they also do catering. It isn’t a hot spring, but the bathtub is spacious enough to stretch your legs in. The rooms are clean too.
