The bus ride there took us past breathtaking scenery and nature, though my photos don’t do either the views or the experience justice. The food was wonderful, and both the indoor and outdoor baths were amazing. We slept comfortably in the rooms and futons. Most of all, the service was incredible: the grandmother working there looked after us from the moment we got off the bus until we boarded to leave. Definitely a trip worth taking at least once in a lifetime.

The open-air bath could be booked for private use, and I loved soaking in the Ryujin Hot Springs water, which left my skin feeling smooth. My room, Onari-no-mae, made me feel like a lord. The main building is magnificent and registered as a national tangible cultural property. Each room has a quaint feel; although the bathroom and sink are outside the room, I didn’t find that inconvenient. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the seasonal meals were refined, delicious, and satisfying. I’d love to return. I’m amazed they’ve maintained their status for so many years. 👍
