Tentsuku Guest House - Hostel

The host was friendly and really helpful, and spoke enough English to get by in Tanabe, where that can be difficult. It was the best guesthouse or hostel of my three weeks in Japan. I stayed at Tentsuki guest house as a base for hiking the Kumano Kodo to Nachi, then on to Koyasan. It’s about two minutes from the bus and train station, costs 2900 yen, and check-in is at 6pm. Highly recommend it!

A lovely guesthouse right next to Tanabe station. The room was great and had air-conditioning. The shower and tap weren’t very pleasant to use, and they’re on a different floor.

The owner was so kind to the children and never seemed bothered by them, even though we had three young kids and there were other guests staying there. I’m sure we caused some inconvenience, and I really appreciated how warmly we were treated. We had our luggage delivered both ways. I picked it up myself on arrival, and the owner helped handle the handoff when we left. Thank you so much for all your help. We had a lovely trip and made happy memories. We rented the six-tatami room for two adults and three children. We were visiting the sea and Adventure World and wanted to keep lodging costs down. 20,000 yen for all five of us for two nights and three days was incredibly cheap and a huge help. The place is right by Kii-Tanabe Station, a one-minute walk, maybe just a few dozen seconds, which was great with kids and lots of bags. The beach, Ougi-ga-hama, is 10-15 minutes away on foot. It’s an enclosed bay, so it suited the kids. We went right in the middle of Obon, and just like the online reviews said, we didn’t see a single jellyfish. There’s a direct bus from Kii-Tanabe Station, so we also made an unplanned visit to Tore Tore Market.

I stayed at this inn while touring by motorcycle. The owner rides too, so it feels very welcoming to travelers. If you’re in a small group, you can park your motorcycle there. Restaurants are close by, so getting a meal was easy. I’d stay here again next time.
