Tateyama Retreat

The meat at the barbecue was delicious, and the rice balls made the meal satisfying. We used the barbecue facilities during our one-night, two-day stay with 15 people. The biggest plus was how clean the place was overall. Each room is Japanese-style with tatami, but there’s no private bathroom or toilet in the rooms. There are two bathrooms, each able to fit around three people at a time. I hadn’t checked ahead, so I didn’t realize seasonings weren’t provided. We had to go to a convenience store for salt, so keep that in mind. Staff come to each room to check 10 minutes before checkout, so don’t leave checking out until the last minute. We were very satisfied and will stay again.

We had a comfortable stay with our group of 19 adults and children over the weekend. The place was very clean, and as first-time guests we appreciated how carefully they handled our advance questions. Check-in explanations were easy to follow. The large bath looks out over the ocean, which felt luxurious. We could have a BBQ, and the garden lawn gave both the adults and kids room to enjoy themselves. We’d like to come back next year.

We were a family group of 24, parents and children, and had a great time with the BBQ and fireworks. The BBQ meal set was good value, with beef, chicken, pork, seafood, yakisoba, vegetables, and more. They answered our meal questions quickly by email, and the phone service was excellent too. They were happy to answer everything we asked. Having locks on each room was great for privacy with such a large group. We enjoyed the ocean view from our room, though we never made it to the beach, which we regret. The harvesting experience was too far away without a car, and there was no shuttle, so we had to give it up. Cleaning staff arrive right at 10:00 a.m., so if you want a relaxed morning, it’s best to ask for a late checkout.

Once inside, the place was wonderful, even though my first reaction was that it looked different from the website. Everything was impeccably maintained. About 40 adults and children used the two bathrooms, and we never felt inconvenienced. The kitchen was spacious and had plenty of cooking utensils, glasses, plates, and serving dishes. The large living room could fit a small training session, and the projector let us hold meetings while showing video at other venues. There’s a nice view from the window, and the coast, possibly a fishing port, is within walking distance. I’d definitely use it again if I get the chance.
