I've stayed at Green Hill twice, both times in the shinkan on the second floor above the cafe/restaurant. It's a friendly, casual place that welcomes surfers and non-surfers. The staff are wonderful, especially Okaasan and Otoosan. The compact, comfortable rooms are clean and have two twin beds, a little desk and chair, AC, and a small wall-mounted TV. Early mornings can be noisy when people head out for dawn patrol. The shared second-floor toilets and sinks are kept clean, as are the men's and women's shower and bath facilities downstairs. There's coin laundry and a dryer too. Breakfast and dinner are available. The food is fresh, mostly local, tasty, and plentiful. Tebiro beach is just a three-minute walk away for surfing or swimming. There aren't any shops or convenience stores within walking distance, so having access to a car is a big plus. WiFi and mobile service are reliable in the room, cafe/restaurant, and on the terrace, which makes remote work doable. If you arrive before check-in or need to stay after the 10am checkout, you can leave your bags in the cafe/restaurant area. After checkout, you can also use the shower or bath if you surf or swim before going to the airport. I'll keep staying at Green Hill whenever I can. Highly recommended!

The food was excellent, and there was enough that we never went hungry. We tried some local sugar-cane sake the owner gave us. The wife is very sweet, though the husband does love his dirty jokes. This is a lovely place, and I'd stay again. It's a two-minute walk to the beach, and you can rent all sorts of gear, including paddleboards, surfboards, snorkeling equipment, and skateboards. There's a parking lot, rental cars, and airport pickup too. The inn is brand new and very clean, with shared bathrooms and sinks. The rooms have no blinds, and the walls and doors are thin, so bring an eye mask and earplugs.

This is a full-on surf compound, with plenty of boards to choose from and a short walk down the path to a good break. There's a surf shop and cafe, a concrete skating wedge out front, hot showers, a massage chair, and really friendly staff. The mom makes sure nobody leaves the table hungry. We paid around 8000 yen (about $80) per person, including home-cooked breakfast and dinner served on the 7’s in a big family room where you meet the other guests. Local brew is on tap, and you can finish with a glass of ShōChū, a weaker sugar-based liquor. Check the website for current rates. Life on Green Hill is pretty sweet. #greenhillsurf #amamioshima
